My dearest incurable humanist,

I can’t believe it’s been officially one year since I started writing here on Substack!

First and foremost, thank you for being here with me every week for a year.

On the Incurable Humanist’s one year anniversary, I thought I’d remind you why we’re here — and if you’re new, welcome!

The Incurable Humanist is a space for grief, migration, and art.

Grief is more than mourning the death of a loved one. It is leaving home, it is heartbreak, it is losing who we once were, it is navigating trauma.

Migration, too, is a form of grief. Each journey carries a weight of love, loss, and transformation.

Art is our lifesaver. Art in any of its forms (whether it is painting, music, writing, cooking, theater, film, photography, etc.) is a tool through which we process, endure, and transform our grief. Through art, we find resilience.

The Incurable Humanist was born from my experiences: the profound grief of losing my father, the dislocations of migration from Caracas to Mexico City and now New York, my work in the art world, and my over five years of experience in US immigration law, helping artists and entrepreneurs find new homes in the United States.

The Incurable Humanist is a community built on the understanding that while grief is individual, by sharing it, we find each other — without losing ourselves in the process.

If you’ve related to this newsletter, even once, then this space has done what it was meant to do. Thank you for joining me this first year. I hope to continue being a part of your Tuesdays!

Until next week!
